A student-led engineering initiative born from a simple observation: the deep divide between traditional coursework and what the modern tech industry actually hires for.
The textbook syllabus taught C, Java, and traditional theory. But the industry was rapidly recruiting for TypeScript, AI agents, cloud APIs, and shipped software. Students were completing entire degrees without having ever deployed real code to a live production server.
In early 2026, Kalakonda Akshay alongside passionate student builders (Dharshana, Avinash, Srujan, Gayathri, Yashwanth, Mohul, Siddhartha) decided waiting for the curriculum to change wasn’t an option. They asked: “Why can’t students learn by shipping one real, live build every single week?”
We threw out the traditional 3-hour passive presentations. Every CRAFT workshop is built around active shipping: 15 mins architectural briefing, 60 mins live hands-on coding, and 15 mins live deployment, testing, and GitHub release.
What began as a late-night whiteboard session has grown into a campus-wide movement of 150+ members, live automated QR entry passes, production workshops, multi-department tracks, and a community of creators who build first and talk second.

Yes. CRAFT is open to students from CSE A, CSE B, CSE C, AI & DS, and ECE at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Nagercoil Campus. Students do not need prior experience in AI, web development, or advanced programming to apply as regular members. Curiosity, consistency, and willingness to build matter most.
No. Sessions are designed so first-time builders and experienced coders can both contribute.
Registrations are reviewed by the CRAFT team on a first-come basis until the 150-seat cap is reached.
Every session follows the 15-60-15 method: a short brief, a hands-on build, then a test-and-share close.
Participation certificates are issued for completed workshop series — details are shared each semester.
Yes — coordinator applicants should already have at least one completed project to show.
New registrations join the Waiting List and are promoted automatically as seats open up.
Yes — most workshops and events are open to interested students even before a core seat opens up. Core membership just guarantees a guaranteed seat and closer coordinator support.
15 / Join
Registrations are reviewed by the CRAFT team. Once 150 core seats fill, every new entry joins the Waiting List and is promoted the moment a seat opens.
